Rules

FORMAT
  • All teams compete during the regular season; the top teams advance to the playoffs. The number of playoff teams is determined by the total number of teams in the league.
  • Tiebreakers are determined in this order: total points (3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss), head-to-head result, goal differential, and total goals scored.
  • Teams must field the minimum required players (4) within 10 minutes of the designated game time or the game is declared a forfeit. See Forfeit Policy for full details and scoring.
  • The game ball is regulation size 4. Players are responsible for providing the game ball.

THE GAME
  • All players must wear SPORTSKIND team shirts and closed toe shoes.
  • As a coed league, the intended format is 3 men and 2 females on the field at all times. No more than 3 men allowed on the field at a time.
  • Sandals are prohibited. No metal cleats allowed.
  • Shin guards are required.
  • Bracelets, necklaces, rings (except smooth wedding rings), and earrings should be removed before play.
  • Names on shirts, numbers, cut off sleeves, etc. are permitted as long as they don’t cover the original SPORTSKIND logos.
  • A player not wearing a SPORTSKIND league shirt or Championship shirt can still play, just as long as every player on their team is wearing the exact same uniform/jersey. A violation of this rule results in the player sitting out the first 5 min of the game.
  • Each game is played in two 20-minute halves, running clock, with a 2–4 minute halftime.
  • There is no traditional goalkeeper present
  • Players are prohibited from touching the fence with their hands.
  • Kickoff: At the official's whistle, the ball must be kicked in any direction. Every opposing player must be at least 5 yards from the ball until it is kicked. A goal may not be scored directly from the kickoff. The kicker may not play the ball again until it has been touched by another player. The ball must travel the distance of its own circumference to be in play.
  • No throw-ins: The ball must be placed on the ground and passed/kicked back into play.
  • The ball must be kept on the ground or below head/shoulder height at all times. A pass or shot at or above head height will be blown dead by the official and result in a pass back into play to the opposing team.
  • Corner kicks: awarded when the defending team last touches the ball before it crosses its own goal line. Taken from the corner arc nearest the point the ball went out; opposing players must be at least 5 yards away.
  • Goal Box Rule: Defensive players may not remain inside the designated goal box for more than 4 consecutive seconds. Players must exit the box before re-entering. This rule is intended to prevent players from camping in front of the goal. If a defensive player violates this rule, a free kick will be awarded to the opposing team.
  • Deliberate Delay/Stalling: Players may not intentionally kick, pass, or otherwise send the ball far out of play for the purpose of delaying the game, preventing the opposing team from restarting play, or gaining an unfair advantage. If the referee determines that a player intentionally does so, the opposing team will be awarded a free kick from the location of the infraction, and the player may receive a yellow card for unsporting conduct if the action is deemed deliberate or repeated.
SUBSTITUTIONS
  • Teams may make unlimited substitutions, but only when the ball is out of play (dead ball) and only with the authorization of the referee.
  • A player who has already been substituted may re-enter the game by substituting for another player.
  • Substitutions must occur at the halfway line, and the exiting player must be off the field before the new player enters.
PLAYOFFS:
  • Playoffs will follow the end of the regular season. It will consist of the top teams in the league playing in a single elimination tournament. If there is a tie in the standings, the head-to-head match up will determine seeding. If there is no clear head-to-head winner, goal differential will determine seeding.
  • No substitutes will be allowed during playoffs.  All players must have already played in at least one regular season game and be on the league roster/waiver.
  • Playoff games that end in a tie will go straight to penalty kicks: with 3 men and at least 2 women taking kicks for each team. All shootout kicks are worth one point. If after each team has taken 5 kicks the game is still tied, kicks will continue alternating with remaining players until one team wins. No player may kick twice until all players on the team have kicked. If one team has more players than the other team before the kicks start, then the team with more players will reduce their players to equal that team's amount.

TEAMS
  • There will be a maximum of 5 players on the field at any time for a given team. Teams will be allowed to play a legal game shorthanded with as few as 4 players. There are no roster limits/maximums.
  • Must have 2 women on the field at all times
SCORING
  • A goal is scored when the ball crosses the goal line completely.
  • All goals are worth 1 point no matter the gender, including PK’s (penalty kicks).
  • Shooting Restrictions: Players may not attempt a shot on goal from their own half of the field. Any shot taken from the defensive half will result in a turnover and possession will be awarded to the opposing team.
OFFSIDE RULE
  • There is no penalty for offsides in this league.
SLIDE TACKLING
  • There is no slide tackling, EVER. Even if unintentional, if a slide occurs near a player the referee may call a foul and may issue a yellow card or up to a red card. A free kick is given to the opposing team of the slide tackler.
FREE KICKS AND PENALTY KICKS
  • A direct kick will be rewarded if Advantage had not been given/played or the Yellow Card was the result of dead-ball behavior; contact fouls and outfield hand-balls; contact made on sliding offenses.
  • An indirect kick will be rewarded on non-contact fouls; goalkeeper hand-balls (either outside the box or from an intentional back pass); offside; dangerous plays; sliding offenses without contact; and further keeper infractions. Indirect free kick violations do not result in penalty kicks.
Forfeit Policy
  • If your team forfeits a game during the season, the following rules apply: Loss of game. Winning team receives a 3-0 score.
    • First Offense: Loss of game. Winning team receives a 3-0 score.
    • Second Offense: Loss of game and lost ability to make the playoffs.
    • Third Offense: Removal from the league.
  • Teams have until ten minutes past the designated start time to field a full squad (or the minimum of players required according to rules, 4 players). If at that time a team is unable to field a legal team, they forfeit the game. The teams may utilize the playing field during their allotted time to play an unofficial game. The official score will be marked as a loss with the respective forfeit score.
SPORTSMANSHIP, FOULS, AND CARDS
  • Any player or team may be removed from the league for the remainder of the season, and denied registration for subsequent seasons due to unsportsmanlike conduct at the complete discretion of SPORTSKIND if it is in the best interest of the league.

    • Yellow – First is warning, direct kick.
    • 2 Yellow Cards in one game results in a Red Card.
    • 1 Red Card - Ejection from game and said team will play one player down. May result in 1 or more additional game suspensions depending on severity.
    • 2 Red Cards in one season results in ejection from the league, no refund.
    • Fighting or responding to a fight in a violent manner will almost always result in ejection from the league, no refund.
  • Only team captains may dispute calls with the Officials. All decisions by Officials are final.
  • The head official may eject any player as necessary due to poor sportsmanship, abusive behavior, excessive fouls, arguing or any other reason they deem necessary. Any player ejected twice in a season shall be removed from the league.
  • Officials have complete authority and may: a. call a timeout; call off a game because of weather or other reasons; penalize or eject a player, including game ejection, for any reason. b. ejected players must leave the field for the duration of the day in question.
We enforce a “Zero Tolerance Policy” in regards to behavior of players, managers, and fans. Taunting, trash talking, or abusive language will not be tolerated. Referees and SPORTSKIND staff will have the right to reprimand or eject players, managers, or fans depending on the severity of the situation. Abusive behavior toward the referee will not be tolerated. An ejection carries a two game suspension (including the current game). In extreme cases, the player will be asked to leave the league without refund. The severity of the punishment will be based on the discretion of the referee and SPORTSKIND staff. Any rules not covered or protests will be handled by the SPORTSKIND staff.
