What Does Mad Hatter Have To Do With Volleyball?
That’s a great question. Well, once upon a time, someone came up with a fantastic idea to get more people together to play volleyball: have all participants sign up as an individual, assign them to teams, and then re-assign everyone to new teams before every following round of play.
This became known as the Mad Hatter-style of play because just as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland was known to switch places at the table at any given time, players who compete in a Mad Hatter volleyball tournament switch teams after every round of play.

Register for the SPORTSKIND Mad Hatter Sand Volleyball Tournament
Mad Hatter Format: everyone signs up as a free agent and is randomly placed on a team. Each match consists of two games to 21 – must win by 2. After each match, teams are scrambled again and the players with the best winning percentage keep advancing to the championship round.
- Registration ends August 8
- Tournament is on August 13
- Check-in: 8:30 am, play begins: 9:00 am
- Rec tournament is open to all skill levels
- Each player will play 4 guaranteed matches on 4 different teams
- After 4 games, the top players are put on teams to make a run for the championship
- Lunch and refreshments are provided
- Championship prizes will be awarded
